Bhatkal: In a gesture that reflects deep gratitude and an enduring commitment to education, a former student of the Government Model Kannada School in Bhatkal has once again donated free notebooks to the students of his alma mater.
Shridhar Acharya, a native of Mankuli in Bhatkal taluk and currently a Chartered Accountant based in Mumbai, studied at the school from Grade 1 to Grade 7. Over the past decade, he has quietly supported the institution by distributing notebooks to its students annually.
According to headmaster Janardhan Moger, Acharya continued this philanthropic initiative in 2025 by distributing a total of 583 notebooks to 77 students. While the distribution in previous years took place in his absence, this year marked a special occasion as he was present in person to participate in the ceremony.
Speaking at the event, Acharya remarked that no matter how high one rises in life, they should never forget the school that laid the foundation for their growth. He emphasized the need to support government schools and pledged financial assistance for future infrastructure projects if required.
The Government Model Kannada School, with a legacy spanning over 160 years, has produced a large number of distinguished alumni. Acharya urged his fellow former students to come forward and contribute towards the institution’s development.
The event began with a welcome dance by the students, followed by a formal ceremony. On this occasion, Acharya was felicitated by the School Development and Monitoring Committee (SDMC) and the school administration in recognition of his ongoing support.
Among those present were SDMC President Harish Devadiga, Vice President Sushila Moger, alumnus and Smart Class donor Kiran Chandavar, parent representative Devendra Naik, and alumna Padma Bhat, among others.
