Karwar: Former minister Anand Asnotikar filed his nomination papers from Uttara Kannada Lok Sabha segments in Karnataka as Janata Dal (S) candidate.

As per the pre-poll agreement between coalition partners JD(S) and Congress, this seat was among seven segments in which JD(S) is contesting in this election and the remaining 21 will was allotted to Congress in Karnataka. Ashnotikar face a tough challenge from union minister Anantkumar Hegde, who has won this seat as BJP candidate during last five elections.

Ashnotikar was accompanied by chief minister H D Kumaraswamy when he filed his papers. However, top Congress leader from this district Mr R V Deshpande was not present.

He declared a total value of movable property owned by him, his wife gouri and two children, besides his mother to the tune of Rs 6,13 crore and immovable property valued at little over Rs 66 crore owned by the family.

Asnotikar, a known as a party hopper, recently quit the BJP and joined JD(S).
