Karwar: Forest officials on Sunday arrested five people and seized meat of spotted deer at Manchikeri village in Yellapur taluk.

According to the forest officials, arrested are Mohammed Hanif Shaikh and Abdul Razzak Shaikh of Yellapur, Ismail Shaikh and Abdul Khadar Shaikh of Manchikeri and Mohammed Hussain Shaikh from Bommanahalli village.

They said the team of men went for fishing in Bedti river on Saturday night and poached a deer at night. They took its carcass to their house at Manchikeri and segregated the meat on Sunday. Acting on a tip-off, forest officials conducted raid on the house and arrested five of them and seized two two-wheelers, lethal weapons and deer meat.
