Karwar: A fishing boat which developed a technical snag mid-sea was rescued and brought to the shore by the Coast Guards here on Friday.
The engine of the fishing boat named ‘Shri Durga’ belonging to Purandar Kundar of Malpe in Udupi district developed problems after it was caught in the sea tides. It was found near Baithkhol fishing port.
“There were eight fishermen in the boat. Due to the impact of the tides, the shaft of the boat broke and so, it was not moving forward,” said Deputy Director of Fisheries Department Nagaraj.
The Fisheries Department received the information about this boat when it was about to capsize. The information was immediately forwarded to the Coast Guards who swung into action. The boat was then pulled to the shore with the help of another boat named ‘Gurujyothi’ which was fishing in the nearby area.
Coast Guard, Karnataka Commander S S Dasila said that the boat, the materials in it and the fishermen in it were safe.
