Udupi: The District Framers’ Association will organise a protest rally condemning the apathy of the elected representatives and bureaucrats on the problems faced by the farmers, in front of DC’s office in Manipal, on January 4.
Speaking to media, Association President Bantakallu Ramakrishna Sharma said that the farmers faced a lot of problems, including wild animal menace. All our appeals to solve the problems have fallen on deaf ears. The administration has completely failed to address the issues faced by the farmers, he alleged. Sharma urged the government to completely waive the loans borrowed by the farmers from nationalised banks and cooperative societies. The government should take suitable measures to check wild animal menace. The Kumki rights of the farmers should not be annulled.
He stressed the need to simplify the rules in connection with the compensation for crop loss. The open market for the import of agricultural products should be dropped.
