Mundgod: A 65-year-old farmer Chennappa Vasan committed suicide at Onikere village in Mundgod taluk on Wednesday.

Family sources said, Chennappa had taken a loan of Rs 4.75 lakh from Shivaji Bank and LSMP Co-operative Society for cultivation of maize and paddy in his land. However, he lost both the crops due to excess rainfall. Worried about repaying the loan, he committed suicide by consuming pesticide.
