Mundgod: Election officials seized Rs 3.5 lakh unauthorised cash being carried in a car at Bachanaki check-post in Mundgod taluk recently.

The cash was found in a car with Maharashtra registration. Mohammed Rizwan of Sagar town was in the car which was on its way to Sagar from Pune. The cash was found when the officials of Static Surveillance Team (SST) team subjected the car to checking. When enquired, Mohammed Rizwan said that he was carrying the amount for marriage purpose. But as there were no proper documents supporting it, the tahsildar took the cash to custody. Mohammed Rizwan was then asked to produce relevant documents to get the cash released.

In another incident, Election Surveillance squad seized around Rs 1.03 lakh unaccounted cash near Kalwalwad check-post in Haliyal taluk. The cash was being carried by Madaarsaab Saipansaab Ambalgi from Haliyal through Kalghatagi.

In a third incident, Rs 61,360 cash being carried in a milk van was seized near Barchi check post in Dandeli taluk on April 3, informed Assistant election officer Puttuswamy.
