Election notification for urban local bodies to be issued today

Karwar: Deputy Commissioner K Harish Kumar will issue a notification on Thursday for the conduct of elections for the town municipal council in Bhatkal, Honnavar and Siddapur town panchayats in the district.

The last date to file the nominations is May 16. Scrutiny of nominations will be held on May 17, the last date for the withdrawal of nominations is May 20. The polling will be held from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on May 29.

If it is necessary, re-polling will be held from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on May 30. Counting of votes will be held from 8:00 am onwards at taluk centres on May 31.

Necessary preparations have been made for the smooth conduct of elections.

As the MCC for Lok Sabha elections is still in force, the officials concerned are making hectic preparations to ensure error-free electoral process in the district.

Police personnel will be deployed across the district for security measures.

Polls in Bhatkal

In Bhatkal, elections will be held for 23 wards, for which, nomination filing would begin from May 9 (Thursday).

Speaking to media persons Tahsildar N B Patil, who is also the poll officer said, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) will be in force till the completion of May 31. There are a total of 27 polling booths including 23 general and four auxiliary booths.

Fisheries Department Assistant Director M Ravi will be the poll official for first to the eighth ward, Block Education Officer M R Munji will be the polling official from ninth to 16th wards, Tahsildar N B Patil from 17th to 23rd ward. Various department officials, namely Nagaraj Naik, Sudhir Gaonkar, and Basavaraj Ballari will be assistant polling officials. 

A total of 151 staff will be deployed in the electoral process. An election office has been opened at the second floor in Town Municipal Council office, he said and added that there are 23,920 voters including 12,133 male and 11,787 female voters in the taluk.
