Bhatkal: Dividing Uttara Kannada district, which is geographically vast, will help in developing of the region, claimed former MLA J D Naik.
Speaking to media persons, he said several districts are demanding for division so that there would be better development. Uttara Kannada district also lacks majority of facilities and people are facing hardship. Successive governments have neglected the district over the years.
“Compared to many other districts, funds released to our district is very little,” he said and added that for the overall development of the district and better facilities to people it is better to divide the district.
He said Kumta should be made the district headquarters of the newly formed district. This will also help the parent district comprising of taluks between Karwar and Bhatkal. He said the present district headquarters Karwar is far from every taluk in the district.
People need at least three-four hours to reach district headquarters.
By creating new district people will be spared of a lot of time and resources. He claimed that Kumta is an ideal location to be district headquarters as it is in the centre of the district and can be reached easily.
