District Returning Officer K Harishkumar reviews poll preparations

Karwar: District Returning Officer K Harishkumar, on Thursday and Friday, reviewed the final preparations for the Lok Sabha polling to be held for Uttara Kannada Parliamentary constituency on April 23.

On Friday, he visited Bhatkal and Kumta Assembly segments and monitored the arrangements made for the polling. He visited the counting centre at Kumta and held a meeting with the officers of the flying squad, assistant election officer and model code of conduct assistant nodal officers.

He informed that open campaigning will conclude on April 21 at 6:00 pm.

He directed the officers to be alert to ensure that the Model Code of Conduct was not violated. He also asked the officers to make sure there were no confusions and lack of co-ordination during mustering and desmustering.

He asked the assistant election officers to work responsibly and also instruct staff deputed on election duty to carry out the polling process transparently and systematically. He said that the assistant election officers must also keep the higher-ups informed and send related reports without delay.

He said that special attention must be paid towards providing facilities to physically challenged voters.

Kumta assistant commissioner Preethi Gehlot, IAS Probationary Officer Dileesh Sasi were present.

On Thursday, Harishkumar visited Haliyal, Yellapur and Sirsi Assembly segments and inspected the strong rooms and basic facilities arranged at every polling station. He also sought information on the training provided to the polling officers and security arrangements made.

He also held a meeting with officers concerned and gave relevant pre-poll instructions.
