Karwar: The district administration has launched a campaign in which it will collect water samples from more than 300 wells in the flood-affected villages across the taluk, under the ‘Arogya Suraksha’ programme.
Speaking to DH, Assistant Commissioner Abhijin Jain said, the aim of the campaign is to collect water from all drinking water wells in all the flood-affected areas and with the help of Health Department officials, tests will be conducted to check whether the water collected from the wells is good for consumption or not, he added.
As many as 50 volunteers will take part in the water sample collection, and the district administration has given them training on Saturday, he said, adding that the camp was held at flood-hit Mallapur village on Sunday. The camp will be held for five days and within the scheduled period of time, various tests will be conducted by the Health Department officials, he said.
A total of 25 students of Diwekar College, and Government Arts & Science College in Karwar are voluntarily taking part in the collection of water samples from the wells. A workshop was organised for them at the District Health & Family Welfare Department auditorium, he said. In-charge District Health Officer Sharad Naik was present.
