Dist admin committed to rehabilitate flood-affected: Uttara Kannada DC

Karwar: “Natural calamities are out of reach of man. None can gain control over it. Thousands of people in Uttara Kannada have incurred loss and are facing pain due to the floods. The district administration is committed to initiating rehabilitation projects, provide compensation and bring back hopes in lives of people,” said Deputy Commissioner K Harishkumar.

Speaking after hoisting the national flag during the Independence Day programme at the District Police Parade ground in Karwar on Thursday, he said that the floods have destroyed property and infrastructure worth crores and left hundreds of people homeless. Now, the floods had receded and people are heaving a sigh of respite. Many people of the district extended co-operation and support to the district administration while conducting rescue and relief operations. The district administration too worked to its capacity to help the people. Thankfully, life is returning to normalcy and steps would be taken to conduct surveys to compensate for the loss to crops and other properties.

Programmes:

To mark Independence Day, Police, Home Guards, NCC, Scouts & Guides, Bharat Seva Dal and school children held marchpast. The Parade was led by Commander Sachin Lawrence. He was accompanied by the police band.

On the occasion, laptops were given to students Manoj Nayak of Ankola, Shrinivas Nayak of Ankola and Shantika Naik of Honnavar who learnt in a government school and topped in the SSLC exams held in April.

Prizes distributed:

Government Arts & Science College’s 8 Kar Naval NCC Batallion bagged the first prize in marchpast while 8 Kar NCC Batallion of St Micheal High School and 29 NCC Batallion of Shivaji Boys School won the second and third prize respectively. They were given prizes on the occasion.

Zilla Panchayat President Jayashri Moger, MLA Roopali Naik, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Roshan, Superintendent of Police Vinayak Patil, Additional Deputy Commissioner Nagaraj Singrer and others were present.
