MALDA: Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of lying all day and said he is the "chowkidar" of the corrupt and fugitives like Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi and Vijay Mallya.

He also compared PM Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing both the leaders of running their governments at Centre and state respectively without consulting anyone and said both of them ignore the voice of the people.

The Gandhi scion also alleged that both the leaders only make false promises in their speeches.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi keeps on lying all day. Wherever he goes he lies. The upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state will be between ideologies. On one hand, you have the Congress party which is fighting to keep the country united and on another hand the BJP-RSS-Narendra Modi who want to divide the country on religious and caste lines," Gandhi said while addressing a rally here.

Accusing Modi of being the "chowkidar" of "corrupt and fugitive" businessmen Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi and Vijay Mallya, he said Narendra Modi had gifted Anil Ambani the Rafale deal and had looted Rs 30,000 crore of public money.

“Bengal is today run by one person. She does not consult with anyone. She does what she wants to do. Does Bengal not have a voice? The Congress workers are beaten up here. You don’t have to get scared. We are going to form government at the Centre and then you will see what we will do,” Gandhi said while accusing the Trinamool supremo of adopting the same old Left Front tactics.

He also blasted the sitting MP from Malda North, Mausam Benazir Noor switched sides from the Congress to the ruling Trinamool earlier 2019.

Accusing Noor of betraying the Grand Old Party ahead of the Lok Sabha Elections, Gandhi said, “Here you have always voted for the Congress. This time, one person has betrayed you. Remember this, don’t forget that a former Congress candidate has betrayed you.”

“She has betrayed you under pressure and after getting scared. Remind her that one can’t work through betrayal in Bengal,” Gandhi told the Malda voters.

Noor will seek re-election again from Malda North under the Trinamool ticket.

Congress is fighting to keep the country united and the upcoming Lok Sabha elections will be a fight between ideologies of the Congress and the BJP-RSS, Rahul said at a rally here kicking off his party's campaign in West Bengal.
