Dharwad: Heavy rains lashed parts of Dharwad and Belagavi districts on Tuesday night and Wednesday.
Dharwad city witnessed downpour for over an hour on Wednesday evening. The city had also experienced moderate to heavy showers on Tuesday night.
Following rains, several roads in the city were waterlogged causing hardships to the motorists. The rain threw traffic out of gear at the busy Jubilee Circle and PB Road. The rain water mixed with sewage inundated the roads inthe low-lying areas.
The showers brought both joy and sorrow to the farmers in rural pockets of Dharwad. Shirur in Navalgund taluk was the worst hit.The overflowing Kallhalla stream submerged guava and chikku plantations on either side.
Four persons travelling in two goods carriers were rescued by the villagers after the vehicles stuck in the flashflood. Belagavi city and surroundings received showers, accompanied by strong winds, for more than an hour in the wee hours of Wednesday.
Power supply in some of the areas in Belagavi city was disrupted after the branches of several trees fell on power lines. Inamhongal in Saundatti taluk and parts of Gokak and Athani taluks too received light to moderate showers.
Nargund town and parts of taluk in Gadag district received moderate rain for over half-an-hour on Wednesday evening.The showers brought smiles on the faces of the farmers, who are preparing land for the cultivation of rabi crops
