Bhatkal: Various Muslim Managements of educational institutions of Bhatkal visited Bangalore and met with the Minister of Education Tanveer Saith demanding to continue Friday as the weekly holiday in schools.
In separate memorandums of different educational institutions, they said that the practice of observing Friday as a full day holiday and Thursday as a half day and all other weekdays as full working days has been followed for about a century now in all Muslim Minority schools in Bhatkal, Murdeshwar, Manki and Shiroor. They say we see no advantage of uniformity of observing Sunday as compulsory weekly holiday in Muslim Minority Schools. There are very few Muslim parents in this area working in Government or other companies which observe Sunday as weekly holiday.
They also informed to the minister that the present continuity in weekly holiday is also convenient for students and teachers to travel to their nearby hometowns.

The delegations consisted of President and secretaries of Anjuman Hami-e-Muslimeen, Bhatkal, Naunihal Central school, Bhatkal, Shams English Medium high school, Bhatkal, Madire Hawwa Islamic school, Bhatkal, Ali Public school, Bhatkal, Iqra English medium school, Murdeshwar and National High school Murdeshwar.
