Sirsi: Deputy Commissioner S S Nakul has said that the poura karmikas who collect waste from households should create awareness among public about dry and wet waste segregation before September 10, and segregation rules will be implemented strictly from October 2.
Speaking at a training workshop for Sirsi, Yellapur, Mundgod and Siddapur urban local bodies personnel and poura karmikas, here on Saturday, he stated that there would be no space for waste disposal if waste is not segregated and recycled.
Those who produce waste should segregate the waste, failing which the waste collection can be refused. Upto Rs 10,000 fine can be imposed if waste is dumped on the road. Using such provisions, cleanliness should be maintained, Nakul said.
District Urban Development Cell officer R P Naik stated that Rs 57 lakh tax amount to be paid by 153 major waste producers in Sirsi town is still pending. Poura karmikas Annappa Shankar Raja and Masti Rama Bhangi, who had visited Singapore, also spoke. Sumana Kamath, Basheera Begum, K Raju Mogaveer, Mahendrakumar, and others were present.
