Sirsi: Deputy Commissioner K Harishkumar and Superintendent of Police Shivaprakash Devaraju inspected the MES Commerce College in the town on Wednesday, in terms of finalising a room for the counting of votes followed by the bypolls to Yellapur Assembly Constituency.

The bypolls will be held for the MLA’s post which is lying vacant after the resignation of Shivaram Hebbar. The Modal Code of Conduct (MCC) has been enforced. Voting would be held on October 21 and counting of the votes will be held on October 24. The Yellapur Assembly Constituency includes Yellapur, Mundagod taluks and Banavasi hobli in Sirsi taluk.

Speaking to media persons, Deputy Commissioner Harishkumar said, the district administration has made elaborate arrangements in connection with the coming bypolls. Training is being given to the staff deployed on election duty.

The MES College has been inspected as Sirsi is a right place in terms of security, where Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) can be kept safely. If the Police Department refers the same place, the same will be recommended to the Election Commission of India and then it will be finalised later, he added.

Assistant Commissioner Ishwar Ullagaddi, DySP G T Nayak, Tahsildar M R Kulkarni, CPI B Girish, PSIs Shashikumar C R and J B Sitaram were present on the occasion.
