Karwar: Deputy Commissioner Ujjwalkumar Ghosh, on Wednesday said a letter would be written to Chief Secretary seeking a probe into several complaints received on the misuse of kerosene supplied by government for fishing boats.

Addressing a meeting of officials of revenue department, at his office, in Karwar on distribution of kerosene, he said, the fisheries department was distributing 285 litres of kerosene to every boat.

Inflating boat numbers

But, according to estimates, every boat requires 20 litres per day, and 600 litres in a month. There are allegations that kerosene is being misused by inflating the number of boats, he said.

He asked Deputy Director of Fisheries Department, MS Doddamani whether he had looked into the complaints. Doddamanai, however, failed to provide convincing reply.

District Statistics Department officials VM Hegde informed the meeting that agriculture census was set to begin from July 1, and training would be provided to village accountants, revenue inspectors, deputy tahsildars and tahsildars from Juen16. The training would be held at Ankola from 10:30 am till 1 pm, and at Kumta from 3 pm till 5:30 pm on June 16. Such training camps would be held at Bhatkal and Honnavar on June 17, Sirsi and Siddapur on June 18, Mundgod and Yellapur on June 20, Karwar on June 21, and Joida and Haliyal on June 22, he informed. Joint Director of agriculture Department Honnappa Gouda informed that at present 35 raitha samparka kendras were functioning in the district.

Most of the centres were in need of new buildings. Five buildings sanctioned last year had been completed, and seven new buildings have been sanctioned in this year, he said.

“Except Karwar and Yellapur, other parts of the district have received good rains. Sufficient quantities of seeds and fertilisers have been stocked in the raitha sampak kendras. Farmers are showing interest in growing jowar this year,” he observed.
