Davangere: More than 60 people were injured after a swarm of honeybees attacked worshippers during Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at an Eidgah ground in Anagodu village of the taluk on Saturday.
According to initial Kannada media reports, a large congregation had gathered for Eid prayers when the bees were suddenly disturbed—possibly due to movement or noise—triggering an aggressive attack on the crowd. The sudden incident led to panic, with people running for safety, resulting in chaos at the prayer venue.
Over 60 people sustained injuries, including Asif Ali (28), Shafiullah (50), Gangajji (65), Sanaullah Saab (65), Siraj (46), Asad (42), Hanif Ali (30), and Yousuf Ali (30), among others. An Assistant Sub-Inspector, Narappa, and three police personnel deployed on bandobast duty were also injured in the attack.
All the injured were rushed to the district Chigateri Hospital in Davangere, where they are undergoing treatment. Sources in the health department confirmed that most injuries were caused by bee stings and panic-related falls.
Local MLA K.S. Basavanthappa visited the hospital and reviewed the treatment arrangements. Officials stated that two children and a few others are in critical condition, while the majority are reported to be stable.
Health authorities, including the District Health Officer (DHO) and Taluk Health Officer (THO), are present at the hospital to monitor the situation.
