Mangaluru: A memorandum was submitted to the DC K G Jagadeesh by the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists Union members and media persons on 6th September, Wednesday as they gathered outside the DC Office.
They expressed their shock and outrage over the horrific death of senior journalist Gouri Lankesh. They were deeply shook by the shooting of Gouri Lankesh, the editor of Gouri Lankesh Patrika.
Various Journalists expressed their anguish over the death of a fellow journalist and in strong terms, condemned the act. They spoke of how Ms. Lankesh was a social activist who, through her paper, had fought injustices in society and had regularly voiced her disgust for anti-secular elements.
Senior correspondent of Udaya TV and Secretary of the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalist Assiciation Srinivas Nayak, former president of DKWJU Taranath Kappikad, Harish Rai and other media persons were present as the memorandum was submitted to the DC.
Gauri’s style of journalism was hard-hitting and highly critical. In the past, she had many defamation cases slapped on her, but she carried on regardless. She was just 55 when she was gunned down.
