Karwar: As per the Health Department Bulletin, 51 more people tested positive for Covid-19 in Uttara Kannada district on Thursday.
Of them, 17 people are from Haliyal and Dandeli, 12 from Sirsi taluk, eight from Bhatkal taluk, five from Ankola taluk, four from Mundgod taluk, two from Yellapur taluk, and two each from Siddapur, Karwar and Honnavar taluks.
While most of them are primary contacts of earlier patients, source of infection of 15 people is not yet known. Six people have a travel history within the country.
Two people from the district who were under treatment for other health problems died, and on Thursday, it was confirmed that they had Covid-19.
Of them, one was a cancer patient from Ankola. He died in a hospital in Manipal. His swab sample which was sent for testing after the death confirmed that he had Covid.
This apart, a patient from Bhatkal who was on dialysis died in the taluk hospital. Even he tested positive for Covid-19 later.
Eight people recovered and were discharged from the hospital on Thursday. Currently, the district has 499 active Covid cases, while 316 have recovered, and 10 have died.
