Mangaluru: The Covid-19 graph continued to increase in Dakshina Kannada with the district reporting 438 positive cases on Sunday. On Saturday, the district had reported 342 cases with four deaths.
The district’s cases are highest among all other districts in the state, including Bengaluru Urban, which usually records the maximum number of cases. According to the bulletin from Family and Welfare Department, Bengaluru Urban had recorded 348 cases followed by Udupi with 129 cases.
Out of 438 cases, 82 cases were reported across 10 Urban Primary Health Centres in Mangaluru City Corporation limits.
On Sunday, the discharges stood at 311 while the total discharges in the district stood at 98,303. So far, the district has reported 1,03,284 positive cases. The district has 3,415 active cases with patients undergoing treatment. Six more Covid-19 deaths were reported in the district on Sunday, thus taking total deaths to 1,466.
As many as 9,570 samples were tested in district on Sunday. The positivity rate has increased to 4.57%.
So far, the officials have booked a total of 83,353 cases for violation of covid guidelines, like wearing mask in public places, and collected a fine of Rs 1,01,18,517 since March 2020.
Black fungus
According to Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra K V, 19 active mucor mycosis (black fungus) cases are undergoing treatment in hospitals in the district. No fresh cases of black fungus were reported in the district on Sunday. Of the 19 active cases, seven are from DK while 12 are from other districts, he added.
