Karwar: Following the rise in fresh Covid-19 cases, some restrictions have been imposed at the religious centres in Uttara Kannada district.

Informing this to media persons here on Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan said, devotees are allowed to get only darshana of deities at the religious centres in the district. All other religious rituals have been cancelled, he stated.

He said, at present, the Covid positivity rate in the district is low. It has become unavoidable to impose some restrictions to contain the spread of the pandemic. Covid test would be conducted on priests and other staff of the temples once a week, he added.

He said, obtaining permission of tahsildars for marriages is compulsory. Only 50 people can take part in the marriage. Nodal officials would visit the marriage venue for inspection. The inspection would be tightened at the check posts located in the border areas. The movement of passengers would be monitored. Police would be deployed at the tourist spots to ensure that Covid-19 guidelines are followed by people properly, he stated.

He also warned of taking action against the persons who are found violating the guidelines.
