Karwar: Contract employees of Karwar Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) staged a protest before KIMS in Karwar on Friday expressing ire against termination of an employee from service by the contracting agency.

More than 80 contract employees staged dharna before the entrance of the institute and raised slogans against the agency which has the contract and also the supervisor. They demanded to reinstate the terminated employee.

Why protest?

Sandesh Gunagi of Gunagiwad working as an attender with the Microbiology Department on contract basis had availed leave for ten days as he was getting married on June 16. According to the protesters, he had submitted a leave application to the manager and supervisor of the agency which had the contract. But the agency terminated him from the service stating that he had not given prior intimation about the leave.

Sandesh then brought the matter to the notice of Karwar Institute of Medical Sciences Contract employees’ Association President Wilson Fernandes and claimed that he was terminated from the services as revenge due to some old issue.

A protest was staged on Friday as per the call given by Wilson.

Later, Karwar Institute of Medical Sciences Director Shivanand Dodmani held a meeting with the protesters and assured that he will be given a job in some other department of the Institute on a contract basis.
