Congress wins GP by-elections in Bhatkal, Kumta and Haliyal

Bhatkal: Majority of the Congress supporting candidates won at different Gram Panchayat (GP) by-elections in Uttara Kannada district, which were held recently.

In Bhatkal, Congress won 2 gram panchayat seats out of 3, while in  Kumta and Halliyal also Congress won the seats defeating BJP  and JDS supporting candidates.

In Bhatkal, Madevi Somayya Gonda and Manjunath Devayya Moger both pro-congress candidates won the gram panchayat elections unopposed from Koppa and Mavinkurwe gram panchayat seats respectively. Both the seats were reserved for Backward class candidates. 

In Mavalli-2 gram panchayat, BJP candidate Nagaratna Moger won the Kodmakki ward getting 433 votes against pro-congress candidate Saraswati Bhori who got 363 votes.

According to sources from Kumta, Congress supporting candidate Manjunath Harikanth won at Nagoor Gram Panchayat by-election by the margin of 200 votes. He defeated JDS candidate Narayan Sheshgiri who got 342 votes against 542 votes.

Sources from Karwar informed that Shridhar Talekar won Amdalli gram panchayat seat in Karwar taluk by getting 345 votes against his nearest rival Chandrakanth Ager, who got 197 votes. Shridhar Talekar said to be a BJP supporting candidate.

Reports from Haliyal said, Meghana Mandlikar of congress defeated BJP supporting candidate after receiving 212 votes against 167 votes in Tairgon gram panchayat.

Congress party candidate from Yellapur also won the by-election to Madnur Taluk Panchayat constituency in which Kavita Tinnekar defeated BJP candidate Mahesh Desai by the huge margin of 654 votes.
