Karwar: Coastal Security Police (CSP) personnel, who patrol the sea area to check any illegal activity, are lacking basic facilities including proper drinking water supply and toilets.
The CSP has a station near District Science Centre adjacent to NH-66 From Baithakhol Port area, three interceptor boats of CSP are on patrolling duty round-the-clock, while CSP personnel work in shifts. They also participate in rescue operations when fishing boats are in danger. But, the jetty of interceptor boats lack compound wall, while material are kept in a temporary shed, which lack electricity connection also.
Staff shortage:
The CSP station here has 50 percent staff shortage, and therefore, patrolling staff lack sufficient rest also. “We work from 8 am to 2 pm, and we have to work again from 9 pm till next morning,”a CSP staff said.
The Coastal Security Police was formed in 1999 to protect 320 Km long seashore in Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts.
