Karwar: The hopes of the people of Uttara Kannada district were once again dashed as Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa cancelled his visit to the flood-affected places in Uttara Kannada district scheduled on Saturday due to weather problems. As the weather conditions were not conducive for helicopter landing, Yediyurappa was forced to skip Karwar and instead go to Haveri from Shivamogga.
Yediyurappa was supposed to visit Kadra and Mallapur villages and assess flood-related loss. Later, he was supposed to talk to the officials of various departments and then move to Haveri.
“CM Yediyurappa’s helicopter left Bengaluru and could reach only till Shivamogga as the weather did not permit the helicopter to fly further. Hence, the CM could not come to Uttara Kannada,” the district administration said.
Meanwhile, the villagers of Kadra and Mallapur, who were waiting for the CM so that they could pour in their grievances before the minister were left disappointed.
On the other hand, even the district administration and police were all ready to officially receive the CM in Karwar. Officers of various departments and BJP leaders had gathered in the PWD Circuit House. Flood-related photographs had also been displayed at the DC office by the Information Department to give a clear picture of the extent of flood, damage and loss suffered by the people of the district. Food arrangements had also been made there. But the cancellation of the CM’s tour at the eleventh hour made left many officers upset.
Bharatiya Kisan Sangha district unit president Shivaram Gaonkar, who was in the Circuit House hoping to meet the CM said, “Several houses in Dongri village had collapsed. Agriculture lands were also destroyed. We were hoping that the CM will lend ears to our problems and respond. Even earlier, he had cancelled his tour. We are hoping that he will visit the district at least in another one or two days.”
Nagaraj Nayak, a BJP leader, said that Yediyurappa was a hardworking leader. He alone visited several places during the peak flood in the State and responded to the problems. Almost the entire State knows this fact. However, he could not come to Uttara Kannada due to weather problems.,He assured that the CM will visit the district as soon as possible.
