Bhatkal: Disruption in water supply, overflowing sewage and unlit streetlights were among the complaints that dominated at 'Janaspandana' programme organised by Bhatkal Town Municipal Council here at Makhdoom Colony, Bhatkal on Wednesday for the residents of wards 3, 4, 8 and 9.

Town Municipal chief officer Devaraj on the occasion said, Janaspandana has been organised in order to understand the problems being faced by residents. Observing that it was impossible to put an end to all issues, he said TMC would try to resolve as many problems as possible.

Raising the first question, in cities where 24 hours of water supply will be there, at the same point in our town where only 45 minutes to 1 hours of water supply is made, the meter readings gets fluctuated, where it puts poor people in trouble, hence a fix amount should be finalised and also the issue with fluctuation of meter reading should be fixed.

Another resident pointed out that despite registering complaints with the civic body, no measures had been taken to plug overflowing sewage at many crosses, that may lead to overflow and enter the wells, which will cause it to get polluted. Even though the health inspector had assured of taking action, nothing had materialized, he said.

During the interaction, furious citizens questioned councillors for their poor coordination with area wise people. In some areas roads are in a pathetic condition, it is to be repaired at the earliest.

Participants at 'Janaspandana' vented their ire against officials for not having any development works in past 15 months.

Replying to questions, officials said, we had sent to government with various development works lists, hope it will come and have solution to it.

At the meeting, TMC officials Shastri, Health Inspector Sujiya Soman, Councillors Ismail Imshad, Pascal Gomes, Priya Fernandes, Shabina and many others were present.
