Udupi:  Superintendent of Police Nisha James conducted a parade of cattle lifters in Udupi, Kundapura and Karkala sub-divisions on Monday in order to curtail the increasing trafficking of cattle in the district.

James warned those, involved in cattle theft cases in the past, to refrain from stealing cattle in the future.

As many as 50 criminals in Kundapur sub-division, 32 criminals in Udupi sub-division and 75 criminals in Karkala sub-division were warned of strict action if they ignored and continued with their illegal activity.

Sources said that the police collected the mobilephone numbers, addresses and the present job details of criminals for effective monitoring.

The criminals who were paraded on Monday included those who were convicted by the court and others on whom cases of illegal cattle transportation had been filed in different police stations across the district.

Nisha said that the parade was conducted with the objective to reduce incidents of cattle trafficking in the district. Last month the criminals' parade was conducted at the police station level.

This time it was organised at the sub-division level. Police had made these criminals to sign the bond before the taluk magistrates promising that they would not indulge in any criminal activities.
