Bhatkal: Low-key celebrations mark Eid Ul Fitr in Coastal Karnataka

Bhatkal: Due to restrictions on gatherings and mass prayers following the spread of Covid-19, the Eid celebrations in Coastal Karnataka were a low-key affair. Eid-Ul Fitr marks the end of the fasting month of Ramzan.

The excitement, which is usually witnessed during the festival every year, was missing this time due to the pandemic.

Mosques and Eidgahs wore a deserted look as these remained closed for devotees due to lockdown orders.

The decision to celebrate the festival at home was taken by Islamic scholars and conveyed to devotees. People offered Eid namaz at home without going out and celebrating with friends.

In Bhatkal, as per the guidelines issued by the government, Muslims offered Eid special prayers from homes and greetings were exchanged virtually over phone calls and social media communication platforms. It shall be noted that exchanging of hugs not happening this year in view to maintain social distancing norm.

It shall be noted that in Uttara Kannada district, Bhatkal along with Honnavar and Kumta celebrated Eid Ul Fitr today, while the rest of the regions will mark the celebrations tomorrow on Friday.
