Bhatkal: An FIR has been registered against a Bhatkal government hospital doctor at the Town Police Station following a complaint filed by the editor of a local TV news channel.
The complaint, filed by Shankar Naik, editor of a local TV channel, alleged that on 29th March 2020, he had telephoned Dr. Savita of the Taluka Hospital to collect COVID related information, and a report on it was then broadcasted.
Objecting to this, Dr. Savita, summoned Shankar Naik to the office of the Deputy Superintendent of Police and reprimanded him in the presence of the DSP and Circle Police Inspector, and then recorded the conversation and made it viral on social media.
According to Shankar Naik, the doctor's move has hurt his dignity, that tried to humiliate him. In this regard, Shankar Naik had filed a private complaint at Bhatkal court. The court accepted the complaint and directed to register a case against the accused. A case has been registered against the doctor under sections 504, 506 and 505 (b) of the IPC at the Town Police Station. The whole matter is expected to come to light after police investigation.
