Bhatkal: A group of few final year students of the Mechanical Department of Anjuman Institute Of Technology and Management (AITM) college developed a solar-powered machine for cleaning beaches. The students namely Safwan Ahmed Mohammed Sadique shaik, Arsalan Noor Mohammed saheb, Mohammed Sharique Shabbir Hussain Mujawar and Mubarak Khawaja Adam Shaikh under the guidance of College’s Prof Padmayya Naik, have developed the machine at a cost of about Rs 40,000. The machine that functions as a robot can be controlled with the help of a remote controller.

The machine cleans garbage such as plastics, papers and other waste on the beaches and it is environment-friendly as it functions with solar power.

Speaking to media, Dr Padmayya Naik said, the machine functions using solar power instead of petrol or diesel. It can be used for cleaning beaches for about two to three hours. Besides, it can also be developed further and may be used by Town Municipal Councils (TMCs) and City Municipal Councils (CMCs) for cleaning. The machine helps to resolve labour problem. Hence, it can be used for collecting garbage in the limits of local bodies,” he suggested.

The College management lauded the work of the students.

The machine can be used for cleaning tourist spots including beaches. In order to maintain cleanliness at such places, Dr Padmayya encouraged and guided the students to develop this machine.

On this achivement of students Anjuman Hami-e-Muslimeen Management congratulated the team.
