Bhatkal: Al Falah Youth Service Organization, Bhatkal, on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to Governor of Karnataka through Bhatkal Assistant Commissioner, condemning the increase in power bills without prior notice. They demanded that increasing the prices of electricity should be dropped.

The memorandum stated that no information was officially given about raising electricity prices. But the cost of the units has been raised by the power-supplying company. Due to drought and floods in the state, the people have already suffered a lot of stress and it has become difficult for them to survive. Over that, increasing electricity prices is like making it an incredibly difficult for people. Therefore, the Governor should urge the state government to stop it.

The memorandum also stated that power supplying companies should address their shortcomings and take steps to overcome the losses within themselves. They should not try to put the burden on the public for their own misconduct. In addition, LED bulbs should be used for street lights, which can save electricity.

In the memorandum, it was complained that new meters installed in different areas in the state might have defects and there are also complaints of higher bills due to these meters. Houses that use only one or two bulbs are also receiving electric bills of hundreds of rupees in a month. In this regard, the complete inquiry should be made and order should be issued for the removal of such meters if there is any fault in the meters.
