Bhatkal: An uproar was caused in the Shams English Medium School regarding the Measles-Rubella vaccine on Sunday.

More than 50 parents of the students barged into the school on 19th Feb Sunday. The rumors relating to the MR vaccine led to a dispute between the parents and the doctors/teachers. 

Rumors stated that the MR vaccine was a conspiracy by RSS and the union government to control Muslim population and these rumors created a tension and fear in the minds of the Muslim parents. There was a serious opposition from the parents on this matter and they specifically did not want their children to have the MR vaccine.

Bhatkal town Municipal president Sadiq Matta, Tanzeem vice president Inayatullah Shabandri, Bhatkal muslim youth federation president Imtiyaz Udyawar and others tried to diffuse the situation, but failed. On being informed about this, tahsildar V.N.Badkar arrived at the school trying to convince the parents, but it did not bear any results.

The doctors and nurses were disappointed by the behavior of the parents and it led to the cancellation of the campaign.
