Bhatkal: Taluka merchants Association to hold one-day major workshop on new tax system GST (Goods and sales tax) on 5th July, Wednesday morning at 10:30 am in the town's rabita hall. The information was given by the association president Venkatesh Prabhu.
In a press conference held at a private hotel in Bhatkal, he stated, "As per the central government's order, the GST will be applicable thoroughout the country from 1st July. But, the clear information regarding this system is not known to the business holders as well as to govt officials."
"Earlier, when VAT tax system was introduced in the country, the information was given to the business holders. But unluckily, the information regarding the GST tax system is not known to govt officials too. The public speaking say that this decision has led people to undergo confusion and also blame govt for it's sudden decision on this system" he said.
He further added saying, "We are not against the implementation of new tax system, but we express our confusion over not providing clear details in this regard. To overcome this confusion, the workshop has been organised in Rabita hall on 5th July, Wednesday"
To provide clear and smooth information, Ex-Commissioner of tax department S. Gundurao from Hubli, Bharatesh Kumar from Kumta tax department and Muhammad Sharif from Honnavar are expected to address in the workshop regarding GST to the business holders and shopkeepers. More than 300 shopkeepers from across the taluk are expected to attend the workshop. Session will also be held for the people to ask queries regarding GST.
Association secretary Siddique Ismail, Vice-president Rajesh Nayak, Members Mande Saheb Mohtesham, Imtiyaz Ruknuddin, Manjunath Prabhu, Padmanabh Pai amongst others were present.
