Bhatkal: A demand was placed by the Jaya Karnataka Association to the government urging to set up a traffic police station in order to check increasing vehicular population and road accidents, here on 21st June, Wednesday.

The memorandum stated that thousands of vehicles move around in the town everyday and most of them don’t even have a driving license. Goods carrying vehicles violating the traffic rules have become a common thing in town.

Reckless driving by college students and drink and drive cases are being reported continuously. This has posed a serious threat to the lives of the people.

“There is an urgent need for a traffic police station in order to put an end to reckless driving and ensure that the traffic rules are followed in the city. This will indeed decrease the number of accidents in the city”, they further added.

Later the memorandum was submitted to the assistant commissioner in this regard.
