Kumta: A girl Engineering student committed suicide by hanging herself at her house in Hegde region in Kumta on Friday.

The deceased, Shweta Ishwar Naik, was a student of first year in Bachelor of Engineering (BE) studies at Anjuman Institute of technology and management in Bhatkal. It is said that she had been to her native place in Kumta few days back after finishing her semester exams. The exact reason behind taking this extreme step is yet to be ascertained.

Sources informed that incident happened when there were no member in the house.

A case has been registered in Kumta police station.
