Bhatkal: Strong resentment is brewing among residents of Murdeshwar and nearby areas over the worsening condition of roads, with locals blaming official apathy for the prolonged neglect. The issue has triggered criticism of government officials as well as district in-charge minister Mankal Vaidya.
According to residents, the road stretch connecting Basti Makki to National Colony has remained in a dilapidated state for several years. Around five months ago, authorities reportedly initiated repair work, but instead of a proper relaying, only loose gravel was spread on the surface, after which the work was left incomplete.
The incomplete work has severely affected daily commuting. Pedestrians and motorists alike are facing difficulties, while two-wheeler riders are particularly vulnerable due to the risk of skidding on the loose gravel. Locals say the stretch has effectively turned into a hazard-prone zone, raising concerns over potential accidents.
Residents allege that the matter has been repeatedly brought to the attention of the district administration and Minister Vaidya, but no tangible action has followed. They also expressed disappointment over what they described as unfulfilled development promises made during elections, adding that the minister has become largely inaccessible.
Demanding immediate intervention, residents have urged authorities and the contractor concerned to complete the road work without further delay. They warned that continued inaction could lead to public protests in the coming days.
