Bengaluru: Renowned educationist, founder of Urdu daily newspape Salar and former Pro-Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Dr Mumtaz Ahmed Khan passed away on Thursday evening in Bengaluru at the age of 86. He is survived by his wife, son and two daughters.
A visionary leader and doctor by profession, who at the age 31, founded the Al-Ameen Educational Institutions. He has established 200 institutions in Karnataka, and all over in India. In Bengaluru, the Al-Ameen institution has various colleges catering to varied streams from pre-university, degree, post-graduation Institute of Management, College of Pharmacy, and Law College to the Al-Ameen College of Education.
Widely referred to as ‘Baba-e-Taalim’, for his services in education sector, Dr Khan was born on September 6, 1935, in Trichy, Tamil Nadu. Dr Khan did his MBBS at Madras University, Chennai in 1963 and moved to Bengaluru in 1965.
He is a recipient of several domestic and international awards including Karnataka Rajyothsava award, American Federation of Muslims from India Award, Kempegowda Award, Junior Jayees Award and Public Relation Society of India Award.
