Bantwal: An order has been issued to the police to open fire anyone who tries to attack or assault the cops, by IGP Harishekaran following the incidents of violence occurring in the district from past one-and-a-half-months
Following the stone pelting incidents during the funeral procession of RSS worker Sharath on 8th July, Saturday, a meeting was held and western range IGP gave instructions to the police to use their weapons within the ambit of law to maintain law and order.
Reports state that he has also ordered the cops to shoot anyone who tries to get away from inspections at checkposts.
Acccording to sources, around 20 people have been arrested in connection to the stone pelting that occurred during the funeral at BC Road and about 26 checkposts have been installed along the route.
“The district and the city police need to work together in solving the brutal crime”, said IGP Harishekaran adding that the superintendent of police (SP) has been directed to seek assistance from the city crime branch in nabbing Sharath's murderers.
Section 144 continues to be clamped in the district.
