Bantwal: Five Hindutva leaders booked for the violence on BC road

Bantwal: Criminal cases have been slapped against five local leaders of Hindutva group by the Dakshina Kannada district police for their respective roles in triggering of unrest caused during the funeral of RSS activist Sharath Maivala in the Bantwal taluk.

The accused are State Secretary BJP Backward Classes Morcha Satyajit Surathkal, State Convenor of Bajrang Dal Sharan Pumpwell, Pradeep Pumpwell, Muralikrishna Hasanthadka and Harish Poonja.

According to police sources, cases have been registered against them under the Section 307 of the IPC (Indian Penal Code) at the jurisdictional Bantwal Town Police Station and the accused will soon be taken into custody.

Sharath (28) was a RSS activist and was stabbed by unidentified miscreants on 4th July and died in a hospital at Mangaluru on 7th July. His mortal remains were being taken to his home town Sajipa Munnir in Bantwal taluk by Sangh Parivar on 8th July ignoring prohibitory orders.

But when the procession reached Bantwal, stones were pelted at shops and vehicles by miscreants. Several suspected Hindutva activists were caught on camera collecting stones on road during the procession.
