Sirsi: Sirsi court has sentenced two persons to ten years rigorous imprisonment and slapped fine of Rs 30,500 on them holding them guilty of of attempting to rape a young woman.

The convicts identified as Moulahussain Abdul Sattar (23) of Savanur in Haveri district and Satish Gowda of Hosapete waylaid a woman moving on a bike at Hudelkoppa Cross near Bisalkoppa in Sirsi taluk on July 23, 2015. They then forcefully took her to the forest where they tried to rape her. However, the woman raised an alarm and on hearing the cries, some passers-by rescued her. The passers-by even caught one of the accused and handed him over to the police.

The police further investigated the case and submitted a charge sheet in the court.

Additional District Court Judge Shantaveer Shivappa who heard the case and sentenced the accused to ten years of rigorous imprisonment.
