Aster MIMS Institute of Emergency Medicine holds Convocation ceremony

Kozhikode: Aster MIMS Institute of Emergency Medicine conducted the convocation ceremony of the three-year Post Graduate Program (PGP) in Emergency Medicine. Adding to the celebratory atmosphere was the presence of a patient, Mr. Adarsh who had come to the Emergency Department in cardiac arrest and was successfully revived after cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for 45 minutes by the emergency medical team. The emotional highlight was the special guest for the evening, Mr. Adarsh giving the certificates to the very doctors who had saved his life in the Emergency Medicine department.

 The comprehensive evaluation of the doctors undergoing the Master’s in Emergency Medicine included scrutiny of the logbooks for the three year period with particular focus on performance in handling patients, participation in academic activities, research and paper presentation, organisation of camps and training sessions. The convocation began with the doctors presenting their academic thesis which displayed quality clinical research on innovative topics such as identification of high risk factors of Hepatitis A infections progressing to fulminant hepatic failure, use of empirical antibiotics in the emergency department to control infections and age as a risk factor for patients on ventilators. The theses demonstrated the extensive research done by the doctors.

The Gold Medal for the Best Thesis instituted in the memory of the Late Dr Pashupati Pandey was presented to Dr. Shihana Saifuddheen by eminent teacher, Dr. TV Ramakishanan from Ramachandra Medical College and Dr. Mariam from George Washington University, USA. 

Prof. K. K. Varma, Group Chief Medical Officer at Aster DM Healthcare was the Chief Guest at the glittering convocation ceremony, which was also attended by dignitaries like Dr. Rahul Menon, CEO, Aster MIMS,Dr.Srinath, National President, Society for Emergency Medicine, India (SEMI) and Dr. SaiSurendra, President, (Tamil Nadu), SEMI. Other dignitaries included Dr Vivekanshu Verma, Medicolegalist and Toxicologist, Medanta, Gurgaon and Dr Kingsley. Dr.Venugopalan P. P., Chief - Emergency Medicine, Dr Shibu Varghese, the team of expert doctors and trained nurses at the Institute of Emergency Medicine, MIMS were all present.
