BENGALURU: A social media post that a woman allegedly died when police blocked the road at Hoskote for an ambulance, in which she was being taken to make way for the Chief Minister’s convoy, has gone viral. However, police have denied this and stated that no death has been reported due to traffic halt.
According to the post, on June 25, an ambulance carrying an old woman was made to halt to pave way for Siddaramaiah’s convoy on the Chikballapur-Chintamani Highway near Hoskote. Though her son approached the police officials and requested them to make way for the ambulance, they did not heed to his request. The public also requested the police, but they turned a deaf ear. Enraged by this, a few of them went ahead to make way by removing the barricades. Reacting to this, police resorted to a mild lathicharge to disperse the crowd.
The traffic was cleared only after the CM’s convoy passed. The patient was rushed to hospital where she was declared brought dead. “The ambulance was stopped to allow the CM convoy. Police did not even consider the patient’s son’s request,” said Chandru S, the person who recorded the entire incident on his phone.
However, a senior police officer from the Central Range dismissed the reports and said, “There was an ambulance and only one male patient was in it. Ambulance staff told me that the patient, identified as Naveen, was being shifted to Hosmat hospital from Narsapura village and he was not serious.”
