Karwar: An accidental fire broke out on the ground floor of the three-storey building of the Zilla Panchayat Chief Accountant's Office in the city on Saturday morning, gutting documents, TVs and other items in the office.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the building caught fire due to short circuit. In this regard, Zilla Panchayat CEO Priyanga told reporters that initially a fire was seen in the 'K-Swan' room of the building, all the wooden items were burnt. Fire brigade personnel managed to extinguish the fire from spreading. As many more documents and computers were stored on the third floor of the building, no harm was caused. She said that an investigation should be carried out into the fire accident.
On the occasion, Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner Mullai Mugailin visited the building and inspected it.
