Udupi: As many as 83 people tested positive for Covid-19 in Udupi and the total number of cases stood at 11,596 in the district, as on Monday.

The total number of Covid deaths increased to 97 with two more deaths reported on Monday.

Among the dead are a 43-year-old male from Udupi who suffered from acute respiratory distress syndrome with acute coronary syndrome, metastatic bladder cancer, malignant, ascites, ischemic heart disease, diabetes and hypertension, while a 40-year-old man from Udupi who died suffered from B-Cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and acute respiratory distress syndrome.

A total of 235 swab samples were collected and sent to the lab for testing. The reports of 172 swab samples are pending. As many as 9,101 are discharged and the district has a total of 2,398 active cases.

Out of 83, 53 are asymptomatic and 30 are symptomatic. Of the new cases, 28 are from Udupi, 35 from Kundapur and 18 are from Karkala respectively. Two infected are from outside the district.

The source of infection of 27 cases is under investigation and 21 infected are the primary and secondary contacts of already infected people.
