Bhatkal: The 76th Independence Day was celebrated in a special and grand manner across the Bhatkal taluk on Monday. Patriotism flourished during the celebrations. People especially children enthusiastically participated in the celebrations.
Assistant commissioner Mamatha Devi hoisted the national flag as part of the Independence Day celebrations held at the Taluka stadium in Bhatkal.
Later, addressing the gathering, She said Lakhs of people fought for the freedom of the country and many sacrificed their lives during the freedom struggle and we got freedom due to the selfless struggle of such freedom fighters.
Presiding over the event, Bhatkal MLA Sunil Naik said, we are celebrating Independence Day in a significant manner. The Azadi ka Amrut Mahostav and the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ are a great success in the Bhatkal.
“Ours is a pro-people government and the priority is to ensure welfare of the people,” the MLA said. The government is disbursing suitable compensation to the Bhatkal rain affected, he added.
Achievers were felicitated on the occasion and cultural programmes were held as part of the celebration.
