Karwar: As many as 741 cases of the total 2,498 cases were disposed of during the National Lok Adalat held at various courts across Uttara Kannada district on Saturday.
Of the 741 cases, 89 were pre-litigation and 652 were pending with the court. With this, disputes involving a total of Rs 4.41 crore were settled in a day. As many as 30 criminal cases, 179 cheque bounce cases, 35 motor vehicle-related cases and 104 bank recovery cases were resolved. This apart, 11 cases pending with the Family court and 191 other civil and criminal cases were settled.
Taluk-wise
The number of cases settled taluk-wise were: Karwar: 95, Ankola: 64, Kumta: 83, Honnavar: 96, Bhatkal: 61, Sirsi: 79, Siddapur: 99, Yellapur: 25, Haliyal: 77, Dandeli: 02, Mundgod: 60.
Several cases which were pending in the court for years were ultimately settled during the Lok Adalat which saved the time and money of the litigants. However, the litigants of the cases settled at the Adalat cannot go in for higher appeal or reappeal, said Legal Services Authority Member Secretary T Govindayya.
