Yellapur: The Emergency Service Department officials rescued six persons, including five tourists from Hubballi, who were stuck at the Shirley falls in Yellapur on Tuesday evening.
The five tourists have been identified as Naman Revankar, Anand Kori, Bassu, Arthi Konna and Prasad Kamad. According to officials they had come to see the falls on Monday morning.
Footbridge
They crossed the temporary footbridge to reach the falls.
However, in the evening when they returned the footbridge had collapsed and the stream below had swelled, making it impossible for them to cross.
Though they waited for the rains to recede and current in the stream to subside, it did not for the entire Monday night.
The six, including a local resident Ramakrishna Bhat, had to wait till Tuesday afternoon when some locals came there.
The emergency service members knit a makeshift bridge of logs and ropes and helped the six come towards the mainland.
Emergency service officials T N Gonda, Vinodh Kindalkar, Tony Baramoj, Ramesh Biradar and others were present.
