Bhatkal: The Cyclone Tauktae has affected 48 villages in coastal taluks of Uttara kannada, according to the Revenue Minister R Ashoka.
Speaking to presspersons during his visit to cyclone-affected areas in Bhatkal on Tuesday, he said, Giving the initial reports, one person was lost due to cyclone.
He aslo said 176 houses, 86 boats and 45 Fishing nets were damaged. Horticulture crop loss has been reported over 3.57 hectares, he said, adding that 107 people are in relief camps.
He also said more than 500 electric poles and 137 transformers had been damaged.
A compensation of Rs 5 lakh will be given to those whose houses were fully damaged, Rs 1 lakh for partial damage and Rs 10,000 if flood water entered their homes. He said that he has instructed the Deputy Commissioners of all districts to prepare an estimate of the losses incurred and take up repair works. The personnel of NDRF and SDRF are in the region to tackle the situation.

On the occasion, Uttara Kannada District In-charge Minister and Labour Welfare Minister Shivaram Hebbar, Bhatkal MLA Sunil Naik, Karwar MLA Roopali Naik, Kumta MLA Dinakar Shetty and many officials were present.
